1993 feierte Asics die Markteinführung der Gel-Kayano Reihe, getauft auf den Namen ihres Designers Toshikazu Kayano. Im Jahr 2020 launchte Asics daher bereits die 27. Ausführung! Mit dem Gel-Kayano 13 beendete Toshikazu Kayano seine Arbeit an der Gel-Kayano Reihe und übertrug die Verantwortung neuen Designern. Kayano konnte sich damals seine Schuhe nicht abseits der Laufstrecke vorstellen, dennoch fühlt er sich geschmeichelt, dass sich die Retros seiner Laufschuh-Reihe mittlerweile fest im Lifestyle Segment etabliert haben. Der Gel-Kayano 14, der erste 'Nicht-Toshikazu'- Kayano, stellt einen Meilenstein in der Geschichte der Gel-Kayano Reihe dar. Die Neuauflage behält die Mittelsohlenausrüstung und GEL-Dämpfungstechnologie des Originals bei. Leichte Anpassungen wurden bei der Passform gemacht. Asics trifft mit diesem Release genau den heutigen Zeitgeist. Der geschichtete Kunstleder- und Meshaufbau ist typisch für die beliebten Millennial-Runner.
